The Nosotros 3rd Annual Ya Tu Sabes Monologue Slam: Mejorando La Raza

A monologue written for NosOtrosOrg and NBC Universal’s annual Monologue Slam. The phrase “mejorando la raza” is based on the flawed idea that a more Eurocentric beauty standard is preferable. I believe this philosophy never left the culture after Spanish conquest.

My piece focuses on colorism in Latin America and its repercussions - and what I, as a light skinned child of a brown woman, wanted to say growing up when I felt it wasn’t my place to speak on it.
